Assistant Director of Finance

This position will report to and work with the Director of Finance. The absolute priority and responsibility of this role is to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the accounting function. In addition to the application of the skills outlined below, this will be accomplished primarily by working with operations to further the knowledge of the business and enhance the value of this position.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the full cycle of the accounting process, maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly operational reports.
  • Monthly reconciliations of general ledger asset/liability accounts, including bank reconciliations.
  • Monthly GST/PST remittances.
  • Prepare and process journal entries.
  • Maintain capital expenditures and depreciation schedules.
  • Preparing various reporting packages and analyses requested by senior management.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual variance reviews.
  • Liaison with the Canadian and Quebec governments.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end and other government audits.
  • Participate in other accounting tasks as required.


Education, experience, and skills required

  • University degree with a major in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to accurately calculate, process, correct, and manage accounting figures.
  • Attention to detail with an emphasis on delivering high quality work.
  • Ability to work in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Ability to work 40 + hours per week.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Forward thinking and committed to continuous improvement of financial processes.
